Re: fall The accident occurred om monday the 23rd @ approx 12:30p. The pole was stepped. The member was removing his safety belt and had just snapped it into his d-ring, then he fell. He does not have any recollection has to what caused the fall. We also have issues w/ the management team because they sent another member out their to finish the job w/out anyone giving the jobsite a safety clearance. No one new what caused the fall, it could have been power for all we knew. The management apologized and stated they would ensure that does not happen again. I will post any further info as it comes in.
I had a member who could not park on a busy street so they pulled into a nearby alley, in front of a carport area. As soon as the tech stopped a lady pulled up and said she needed to get in to her spot. So the tech, who hadn’t turned off the engine yet, put the van in reverse and backed up and scrapped the right side of the van on a pole that the tech did not notice while pulling in. After the lady pulled in, the tech was all flustered and upset and wanted to see what damage was done so the tech pulled forward and stopped. But immediately another car pulled up and asked to get into the carport area, so he still distressed, backed up again and again ran into the pole. The lesson is of course that whenever you have to backup, think “red flag” and do not backup until you get out and check out the area, maybe even putting cones out to help guide around obstacles, no matter how soon after you pulled into the area . The most important lesson, although, is that when you are frustrated, angry, upset or very distracted, you can not drive. Get out and lift the hood and stare at the engine for a few minutes or go walk around the block or do something else rather than driving. This example shows the power of the mind which will block out everything going around you when you are focused only on yourself.
Cal OSHA does not have an indoor air quality standard, but does handle complaints on the basis of having to have a safe work environment. The problem is that the only things that a company can be cited for is if they have presence of a hazardous compound in the air above the PEL limit. This means that there has to be some empirical data taken and if the company will not do it, the union will have to do it wither their money. Air sampling can be expensive as it usually has to go on for 24 hours a day and to try and catch a fleeting moment in time during a week. But with data Cal OSHA will respond. Now NIOSH has said in the past that they have the ability to test, but they need some pretty good consequential data of something happening like doctors reports before they will do the test.
There was a bomb found at a B BOX on Monday 021207 and the company sent a multitude of emails around that were marked confidential, but no system wide message to techs was given out till the following Monday. If something like this happens in your area and you want to spresd the word pt your info here.

Had a member in the pasadena garage fall from a pole. He was 18' up. Unknown at this time what caused the fall. Will post more info as it is received.
